Seven young women have been selected as delegates and seven as

alternates by the American Legion Auxiliary of Newport Harbor Unit

291 to attend Girls State at Pitzer College, Claremont, from June 27

to July 3. They are Roxana Mehrfar and Bailey Gardner, Corona del Mar

High School; Heather Cluff and Carley Millian, Costa Mesa High

School; Jordi Bradshaw and Kathryn Kulczyk, Estancia High School;

Lakshmi Reddy and Phuong Nguyen, Irvine High School; Brittani Yriarte

and Jessie Womble, Newport Harbor High School; Taneen Jafarkhani and

Lara Trank, Northwood High School; Kendra Kadam and Jennifer Fo,

Woodbridge High School.

They were selected because of their academic excellence, as well

as their involvement in extra-curricular school and community

activities, according to Cynthia Culp, auxiliary member. The

delegates will join 500 young women from throughout the state for the

one-week conference. The young women were recently honored at a

district luncheon and will be involved in other activities throughout

the year. All expenses are paid for by the auxiliary and sponsors are

welcome. The auxiliary sponsors numerous programs that benefit our

children and youth in the community, as well as contributing

countless hours of service and funds to our veterans.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact the American

Legion office at (949) 673-5070.

MOVED TO THE HOLIDAY INN

The Rotary Club of South Coast Metro has moved its meeting

location to the Holiday Inn on Bristol according to club co-president

Lisa Allen. The club still meets Wednesdays at 7:15 a.m. for

breakfast and guests are welcome according to Allen. Originally the

club was formed to serve the South Coast Metro area and the move

allows them to draw members from throughout Costa Mesa. The club

meets every Wednesday for an hour and a half with a speaker of

interest, and provides a variety of service opportunities in the

local community. It’s a great way to start the day, Allen said. If

you want to get involved in the world of service to your community,

consider the Rotary Club of South Coast Metro. For more information,
