Corona del Mar stops Mission Viejo

McCarter and the Corona del Mar under-14 girls Silver Select soccer

team made it stand with a 1-0 victory over host Mission Viejo in AYSO

Region 57 play Saturday.

CdM goalkeeper Gelyne Prow notched her second shutout of the

spring season with help from defenders Sarah Wesley, Abby Carrier,

Taylor Rhodes and Su-Yin Bickner.

Midfielders Shaye Bastien, Alexandra Reinach, Danielle Reinach and

Brittany Donahue, along with forward Michelle Zucker, combined to

maintain CdM’s attack.

In girls under-8 Region 97 action:

* The Red Hot Volcanoes and Blue Crush faced off on Saturday.

Sammy Singer scored for the Volcanoes while Natalie Teale took

several shots on goal.

Tiffany Zahabi, Tara Hurley and Abby Griffith moved the ball into

scoring position with great dribbling. Katya Farinsky trapped a high

ball with her chest and gained possession.

Emily Cook had several huge kicks on defense and was assisted by

defender Daniella Carrese.

Goalkeeper Savannah Santos stopped several charges by the Blue

Crush.

Olivia Muscatello scored two goals for Blue Crush while Nicole

Fitzsimons added a single goal.

Haley Scott took several shots on goal while Gabrielle Shelley,

Tiahna Baird and Leah Van Dyke played strong midfield and defense.

Jordan Goldsberry had three saves in goal.

In boys under-5 action:

* The Green Turtles and Green Dragons battled the Blue Aliens.

In a physical match where many Turtles & Dragons suffered minor

injuries, their defense stood out.

Brothers Lucas, Jon and James Hodges showed their stamina while

Ashe Deering scored several goals. Brandon Ng anchored the defense.

In girls under-6 play:

* The Electric Eels played the Crazy Daisies March 27.

Jacque Defeo and Delaney Kording each scored goals for the Eels

while Megan Keys and Paige Tamblyn added assists.

Kording’s score was after a breakaway by Emma Vujnovich. Defender

Emily Preschong held off the Daisies offense.

In girls under-5 play:

* The Blue Skies continued to grow with their most recent showing.

Erin Holton showed her speed while Kendall Blanchfield’s shooting

and passing led the Skies’ attack.

Jackie Singer is played inspired defense and Molly Volkland made

great strides with her passing and Amanda Walker’s tallied an assist.

In boys under-5 play:

* The Blue Aliens and the Yellow Jackets each played well in their

game March 27.

The Blue Aliens’ Cole Kinder took the opening kick off all the way

toward the goal and scored.

Chris Torres scored in the second quarter on an assist from David

Zachary.
