Cubs running wild in Minor A play

The Costa Mesa National Little League Minor A Cubs scored five runs

on wild pitches to post a 7-1 victory over the Braves Tuesday.

Graham Clevidence caught hard line drives in the first and second

innings to limit the Braves’ offense. Clevidence went 2 for 2 with a

walk and three runs scored.

Pablo Galvan had two hits, including an RBI in the third inning

after a line drive to left field, which scored Eddie Bisoso.

Bisoso, Tommy Fisher and James Pond also had hits.

Molina struck out four in three innings, while Bisoso struck out

three of the six batters he faced in the final inning. Bisoso had two

outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth when he struck

out the batter for the final out.

In other Minor A action:

* Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 6:

The Cubs rallied from a 6-4 deficit by scoring three runs in the

top of the fifth inning to defeat the Diamondbacks April 3.

Bisoso had the key hit in the top of the fifth, a two-run double

that knocked in Nick Schirmer (3 for 4) and Chris Molina to give the

Cubs the lead.

Also contributing to the Cubs’ offiense were Bryan Ruiz and James

Pond with two hits each and Cole Mensinger (single).

Molina pitched two shutout innings and struck out four. Bisoso

also struck out four in his three innings.

In Major division play:

* Giants 5, Angels 4:

Kevin Kaiser’s line drive down the first-base line scored Tyler

Sullivan with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, giving the

Giants the victory.

In Minor B play:

* Braves 12, Cubs 12:

Ryan West, Charles Nelson, Cassie Stevenson, Matt Thomas, Brandon

Dieckhoff and Lisa Hyndman all had hits for the Braves.

Joshua Tierney, Sean Golden and Branden Arceyut had good at-bats

and alert baserunning.

West and Thomas led the Braves’ pitching while Thomas and Charles

Nelson both made great catches in the field.

Brad Wilson tagged a runner out at the plate.

* Diamondbacks 10, Cubs 4:

The D-backs pitching staff led the way to victory against the Cubs

April 3.

Noah JeyaRajah struck out five eight batters in two innings, while

Brandon Long, in his pitching debut, struck out one and retired the

side in order in one inning.

Cody Stoddard struck out three in the fourth and Trever Ramey

closed the game in the fifth with two strikeouts. The D-backs

pitching staff was backed with solid infield play by Matt Spicer,

Jacob Scott and Jordan Doerges.

Robert Sullivan was the anchor behind the plate, throwing runners

out at first and third.

Alexis Chairez, Estefany Ramirez and Yeizon Ramirez secured the

outfield while stealing three bases each.

* Dodgers 12, Red Sox 11:

* Yankees 8, Giants 7:

Frankie Farldow pitched seven innings and added an RBI triple in

the bottom of the third to get the Yankees (3-1) back in the Costa

Mesa American game. Farldow tripled again in the fourth

River Kapeller threw to Michael Hernandez for an out at third in

the sixth to stop a Giant rally.

Robert Marrone scored the winning run on a wild pitch to complete

a five-run rally in the final inning.

The Dodgers’ rally was fueled by five hits and aggressive

baserunning.

Eric Pfautz doubled while Nathan Pearson and Daniel Lee each had

RBI singles.

After reaching on a single, Jeff Carlyle tagged up from first on a

pop up in

front of the plate, pressuring the Red Sox into two throwing

errors on the way to scoring the tying run.

Dodger pitchers Lee, Eddie Chervony and Nathan Pearson all made

their debuts on the mound and held the Red Sox to six hits.

They were backed by strong defensive plays, including Chris

Vasquez’s snag of a line drive at shortstop, Lee’s catch of a pop up

behind the plate and Pfautz’s play on a grounder to short in the top

of the fifth.

* D-backs 9, Cubs 4:

Lucas De La Torre was named the Cubs’ Most Valuable Player for his

hard-hitting efforts. He pounded a triple in the third inning, and

scored on a D-back error on the play.

Jake Stone pitched two strong innings, striking out five of the

seven batters he faced and retiring another with a diving catch on a

popup.

Matt Fewel also pitched an impressive inning, striking out three.

Chad

Fackler’s caught a line drive at shortstop in the first and also

struck out two. Alert baserunning by Chelsey Wyman, Joe Hanson,

Grant Spady, Chris Hernandez, Adam Ward, Art Wisniewski and Hayden

Swift added to the Cubs’ offense.

In Farm division play:

* Danielle Broader got the first hit of the day with a double and

later scored for the Cubs against the Dodgers.

Brad Heron and Noah Prevail each had RBI doubles while Ben Blowers

blasted a home run and a triple.

Daniel Neff and Barrett Kelly both had home runs and Morgan Miller

was aggressive on the bases and drove in a run.

Emily Bolter, Dillon Cassell and Brianna Frawley all showed team

spirit.

* Garet Henscheid tallied two doubles and two singles and finished

with seven RBIs for the Reds. Adam Ditt also had two doubles and two

singles and knocked in four runs.

Garrett Kahre had two singles and a double while Nicholas Halloran

had four singles. Jackson Letterman added three singles and two RBIs.

Marco Perez, Nikalas Arias and Mason Tufuga all singled.

* The Padres continued their hot hitting, led by Garrett Deutsch,

who had five hits, including two doubles, a triple and seven RBIs.

His supporting cast included Mitchell Clevidence (5 for 5, five

runs),

Dante Capoccia (5-5, three doubles, five RBIs) and Kohler Ponsford

(4-5,

An inside-the-park home run and six RBIs).

Shortstop Bill Crosson threw out a runner at first and had

defensive help from William Reed, Harrison Stern, Ted Zoerner, Ryan

Bonker and John Santoyo.

In Tee Ball Minor play:

* The Marlins’ Jarod Adkins hit two grand slams while Zachery

Arceyut was named offensive player of the game for the Marlins

against the Dodgers.

Cameron Smith led off for the Dodgers against the Marlins and had

two hits.

Jacob Petersen was awarded the game ball after recording two solo

outs at second base.

Right fielder Liam Wallington made several strong plays while

Brandon Stevens had several catches from both second base and

shortstop. Collette Halloran had a couple of catches at third.

George Miller played well at first and was aggressive at the

plate. Tyler Bond pitched well and had a hit in the last inning.

Carinna Marrone, Andrea Shammas, Genna Sedano, Gwen Spady and

Michaela Noon each had two hits.

Colin Gardner was awarded best listener and Riley Lord the best

hustler. Christian Lux and Devin Pacheco played strong defense.

Costa Mesa National Little League results from March 27, unless

In Minor A play:

* Giants 9, Costa Mesa American Yankees 1:

Alex Kronfeldt, Matt Carlyle and Kannon Stone of the Giants shut

down the Yankees the victory.

Kronfeldt pitched the first three innings and gave up the only

Yankee run.

Carlyle pitched the next two innings, striking out six in a row.

Stone also struck out the side in the final inning, allowing only

a two-out hit.

George DeLaTorre and Tre Le Ele provided most of the offense.

In the third inning with the Giants leading, 3-1, DeLaTorre hit a

grand slam 20

feet over the left-field fence.

Le Ele went 2 for 2 with two doubles while Jacob Knapp, Stone,

Johnathon Ponce and Robert Webb also had hits for the Giants.

In other Minor A games:

* Angels 4, Cubs 3:

The Angels scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the

Cubs.

The Cubs stayed in the game with a variety of strong performances.

James Pond opened the game with a hard shot between first and

second and went on to score.

Nick Schirmer led off the second inning with a line drive between

shortstop

and second. He later score the Cubs’ second run, barely beating

the throw home on a bases-loaded grounder. Schirmer caught the whole

game.

Cole Mensinger scored the Cubs’ third run after getting hit in the

thigh by a pitch in the second inning. He also played impressive

defense at second base and in left field.

Eddie Bisoso pitched an impressive four innings, catching an

infield fly in the first and striking out seven.

Graham Clevidence made his pitching debut this season, striking

out three of the four batters he faced in the fifth.

Offensively, Clevidence fouled off four pitches before knocking in

the first run on a fielder’s choice.

Chris Molina had two hits and knocked down two line drives at

shortstop for

the first two outs of the fourth.

Derek Andrews had a hit that advanced the lead runner into scoring

position in the first inning and reached base on a fielder’s choice

in the second.

Andrews played all seven innings at first base, tallying seven

putouts.

Tommy Fisher drove in a run with a bases-loaded hit in the second

and helped the defense in left field.

Pablo Galvan and Bryan Ruiz also helped the defense in the

outfield. Ruiz added a hit in the second to advance runners into

scoring position.

Brian Acevez stole two bases after a walk in the fifth. He also

helped the defense at second base and center field.

* Cubs 13, Yankees 12:

The Cubs scored two runs in the top of the sixth and held on for

the win March 20.

Andrews reached on all five of his plate appearances, going 3 for

3 with two walks. Andrews also pitched two innings, striking out

five.

The Cubs, who had 15 hits and 12 walks, erase a 4-0 deficit by

scoring eight

runs in the third.

Molina had the key hit of the inning, a three-run double to

center.

Schirmer caught another complete game and made a stellar play

tagging out a runner at home in the fourth.

Bisoso pitched a strong two innings, striking out six of the seven

batters he faced.

In Major play:

* Costa Mesa American A’s 5, Costa Mesa National Padres 4:

The Padres had impressive pitching by Ryan Cherney, Jesse Fox and

Eusebio Castillo.

Marc DeFrenza made two impressive catches in center field and

Daniel Derieg and Gian-Paul Stebbins both caught line drives at first

base.

Stebbins tallied three hits while Derieg had two. Colin Kincaid,

Fox and a Cherney (triple) added to the offense.

In Minor B play:

* Braves 18, D-backs 14:

The Braves had great pitching by

Brandon Dieckhoff, Matt Thomas and Ryan West led the Braves’

pitching while Dieckhoff and Thomas each caught line drives in the

infield.

Cassie Stevenson and West also made good plays in the field.

Charles Nelson, Branden Arceyut, Dieckhoff, Thomas and West all

had hits. Sean Golden, Lisa Hyndman, Gabriel Ruan and Brad Wilson

each were alert on the basepaths.

In Farm division play:

* Led by the outstanding play of catcher William Reed, the Padres

offense and defense was strong.

Reed had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs.

He also displayed defensive aggressiveness behind the plate.

Mitchell Clevidence and Garrett Deutsch were both 5 for 5 and

scored four runs each. Capoccia, Kohler Ponsford and Tyler Owens

provided power with four hits each (two doubles) and three RBIs.

The defense was equally impressive, led by Owens, who assisted on

three outs from third base and Capoccia’s several putouts at first

along with a caught fly ball.

Christian Darrow (3 for 5), Bill Crosson (2 for 4), Ted Zoerner (4

for 4), Harrison Stern (2 for 4) and Ryan Bonker (3 for 4) all

collected key

hits.

* The Cubs battled hard against the Marlins, getting a spark the

third

inning when Brad Ehrhorn caught a fly ball and doubled up the

runner on

third base.

Danielle Brodeur and Noah Prevel each drove in two runs while Ben

Blower, Daniel Neff, Brianna Frawley, Dillon Cassell, Morgan

Miller and

Ricardo Barragan each drove in one run.

Pitcher Emily Bolter caught a line drive and attempted a double

play while Barrett Kelly added a double.

Brett Bermudez protected third base.

In Tee Ball Minor play:

* Riley Lord recorded a double play to lead the Marlins in their

game against the D-backs.

Jarod Adkins was named offensive player of the game while Blake

Holland was awarded best hustler of the day. Spencer Stern was named

best listener of the game and Logan Twardowski was awarded defensive

superstar of the game.

In Costa Mesa National Minor B division:

* Diamondbacks 10, Cubs 4:

The Diamondbacks displayed a solid team effort in defeating the

Cubs April 3. Brandon Long, in his pitching debut, retired the side

in order with one strikeout. Noah JeyaRajah took over the mound and

struck out five in two innings.

Cody Stoddard struck out three of six batters in the fourth inning

and Trever Ramey closed the game in the fifth with two strikeouts.
