Residents get chance to share ideas on rules

Newport Beach residents interested in weighing in on new rules

governing city parks can attend a meeting of the Recreation

Activities at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonita Creek Community

Center at 3010 La Vida.

Residents will be able to participate in a discussion on new rules

for conduct in city parks that could include permits for athletic

leagues, rules governing group reservations, parking, animal rules

and prohibited conduct such as paintball and alcohol consumption. For

Estancia will open its doors to the public

Estancia High School is inviting the community to an open house

from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today and Wednesday.

Those interested in sitting in on a class, talking with staff

members or just passing through and seeing the campus should stop by

the front office for a visitor’s pass, map and class schedule.

College paper honored seven times over

Orange Coast College’s student newspaper, the Coast Report, won

seven awards at a state journalism competition held from April 2 to 4

in Los Angeles.

More than 40 California schools and 500 delegates participated in

the annual Journalism Assn. of Community Colleges competition.

Matt Ballinger, editor of the Coast Report, won the newswriting

division and took third place in the copy editing contest. Virginia

Lopez, the paper’s sports editor, took third for her sports photo.

Jimmy Stroup won a pair of honorable mention awards for a news and

feature story. Photo editor Raquel S-Saboor and Stephanie McMaster

earned honorable mention in the team feature category. The paper also

received honorable mention for its front page design.

Ballet dancers needed for Barclay show

The National Choreographers Initiative in Corona del Mar is

holding auditions on Sunday for male and female ballet dancers

interested in performing in a July 24 show at the Irvine Barclay

Theatre.

The 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. audition at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School

of the Arts, in dance studio 1100, will cost $10 to attend. Dancers

must be in excellent performing condition, have a strong ballet

background and the ability to adapt to several styles.

Four choreographers in residence will be developing a new work of

their choosing at the audition, which will culminate in the July 24

performance.

Dancers unable to attend the audition may apply by sending a

resume, photo, videotape and recommendation letter from their

artistic director or ballet master to National Choreographers

Initiative, 3334 E. Coast Highway, No. 276, Corona del Mar, 92625.
