Corona del Mar sailing smooth

The top-ranked Corona del Mar High boys tennis team lived up to its

billing with a 17-1 Pacific Coast League victory over visiting Tesoro

Tuesday.

Juniors Carsten Ball and Wesley Miller each swept at singles while

CdM’s doubles teams claimed all nine points. Ball improved to 18-0 in

singles this season and reached the quarterfinals of the boys 18s

singles draw at the Easter Bowl national tennis tournament last week.

Brennan Roberts and partner Alex Nguyen trailed, 2-4, before

winning the next four games to down Tesoro’s No. 2 doubles team.

Freshman Ryan Caughren and Jonathan Kroopf, along with Nick Gingold

and Sean Pham, each swept in doubles while Spencer Reitz took two of

three sets for the Sea Kings (15-0, 3-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in

CIF Southern Section Division I.

Sailors hold on over Aliso

* The visiting Newport Harbor High boys tennis team lost just two

games in nine singles sets and held off a strong Aliso Niguel doubles

attack to post a 10-8 Sea View League victory Tuesday.

Robert Khoury and Jake Fleming didn’t lose a game while Tyler Deck

swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, for Newport (10-4, 4-1 in league). Ruslan

Serydyk and Dylan Espley-Jones notched Newport’s lone doubles win.
