Newport Boat Show

opens at Lido Marina

The Newport Boat Show docked at its new venue, the Lido Marina

Village, earlier this week.

Now in its 31st year, the show features big yachts, up to 100 feet

long. The show moved from its previous location at Newport Dunes this

year.

* Homeowners whose yards and fences encroach on two city parks

won’t get a chance to the buy the land, council members decided

Tuesday. Instead, they decided to examine other alternatives,

including allowing them to use the land for a fee. Environmentalists

have suggested returning the parkland at Irvine Terrace Park and

King’s Road Park to the public, but others dismiss this idea because

they say that it’s unusable area on steep cliffs.

* Former Newport Beach Mayor Ruthelyn Plummer is keeping a

positive attitude despite a diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer.

The longtime local activist stays busy by spending time with friends

and family.

* Corona del Mar’s Zinc Cafe will be allowed to stay open until

8:30 p.m. and to serve beer and wine, despite a shortage of

parking. Council members voted to uphold a Planning Commission

decision to allow the cafe to serve dinner despite the fact that

restaurant has only 11 parking spaces and the city has said it needs

29.
