Daystar Network not shining so bright

I have been following the week-to-week shenanigans of the Daystar

Television Network and their offer to buy KOCE-TV in Huntington

Beach. This “Christian” television network is persistent, to say the

least.

This week, the Pilot announced that a judge had decided in favor

of the KOCE Foundation -- the fundraising arm of the station --

granting them the right to close the deal for purchase of KOCE.

Congrats to the forward-thinking individuals who took action and

offered a bid from the KOCE Foundation to save this valuable Public

Broadcasting Station resource.

It is clear to me, as a fan of KOCE, and to most other

clear-thinking individuals, that Daystar comes under the heading of

an “unwanted suitor.” We all remember them from our days back in high

school and that person with a crush on you that you just found

totally unattractive. There was no future in the relationship, no

matter how much they wanted you.

It is sad that Daystar has spent all this time, and so much money

(theirs and KOCE’s) trying to impose themselves on a station that is

just not interested. The last time I checked, we all still live in a

free country, where we still have the right to sell our property to

the buyer we choose. The judge apparently agrees, and the key words

in Tuesday’s article were “may sell,” rather than “shall sell” to the

highest bidder.

Daystar has vowed to pursue this judge’s decision in an appeals

court. In our society today, we see many cases where unwanted suitors

graduate to something worse. The media usually refers to them as

“stalkers.” Daystar has reached this point.

Tuesday’s Pilot article quotes Daystar as saying that their offer

is better for the students who use KOCE, because it offers more

money. How much of that money has already been wasted on attorney’s

fees?

Daystar, if you really have the student’s best interests at heart

-- then just go away.
