Tom Sargent’s long-iron tip

Make sure to stand tall at address. Widen the stance -- at least

shoulder-width apart at the inside edges of the soles. With the ball

a little more forward, the chances of a sweeping angle are increased,

allowing for a greater chance of getting the ball up into the air.

The slightly wider stance will also promote more weight shift, which

will generate power.

Long-iron swings are more sweeping than shorter irons. Standing

tall allows you to swing around a little more, which makes it easier

to sweep into the ball. A shallow divot is ideal.

Practice on the range, but when on the course, keep thoughts

simple. Think tempo and balance. If you stay in balance and maintain

constant, uninterrupted tempo, you can usually produce solid shots.
