Adopted colt pitches hay at fairgrounds

A horse with no name has arrived at Centennial Farm. An

11-month-old Clydesdale colt was brought to the farm on April 21 by

program coordinator Jim Bailey. He adopted the colt from a facility

in Ramona that rescues horses in Canada slated for the

slaughterhouse.

At an estimated 600 to 800 pounds, the young Clydesdale could grow

to as much as 2,000 pounds and tower well over 6 feet. He joins the

farm’s other draft horse, Izzy, a Shire. The Clydesdale already has

settled into a large, comfortable stall opposite Izzy’s.

Fair employees will have a contest to give him a name before his

first birthday on May 20.

Counting Crows and Boston will play at fair

The Counting Crows and Boston have been added to the lineup of the

2004 Pacific Amphitheatre Summer Concert Series during the Orange

County Fair. Counting Crows, from the San Francisco Bay Area, will

perform at 8 p.m. July 1. They are currently touring in support of

their greatest hits collection, “Films About Ghosts.”

Boston, which performed last year at the fair, will bring its

dynamic 25-year repertoire to the amphitheater. Its performance on

August 7 is in support of its latest release, “Corporate America.”

Concert ticket prices include fair admission. Tickets can be

purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at

https://www.Ticketmaster.com, by phone at (714) 740-2000 or at the

Pacific Amphitheatre box office.

Funds available for purchasing homes

Costa Mesa’s Redevelopment Agency announced that funds remain for

the agency’s Home Buyer Assistance Program. The program offers down

payment assistance of up to $40,000 in the form of a deferred second

mortgage to households earning no more than 120% of the Orange County

median.

The home buyer must provide at least a 3% down payment, have

sufficient income and be creditworthy to qualify for a first mortgage

with a private lender. Purchase price limits have recently been

increased to the area median of $515,000.

If you have not had ownership interest in residential real estate

within the last three years, you may be eligible. Applicants are

assisted on a first-come, first-served basis and funds are limited.

City committee spots open and available

The Costa Mesa City Council is accepting letters of interest from

residents who want to serve on the city’s Bristol Street Mixed-Use

Overlay Plan Committee.

There are three vacancies on the committee. The committee is

continuing to work on the development of a mixed-use zoning ordinance

in the Bristol Street study area. This ordinance would allow

properties within the overlay zone to develop mixed-use projects.

The committee meets the second Tuesday of every month between 5:30

and 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. For more information, call (714)

754-5278.
