U.S. Open qualifying at Newport

Golfers with a dream of reaching the U.S. Open will converge at

Newport Beach Country Club May 12 in local qualifying for the annual

championship, scheduled June 17-20 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in

Southampton, N.Y.

Golfers will tee off on Nos. 1 and 10 at Newport Beach beginning

at 7 a.m. Play is open to the public.
