* Dave Bock defeated Don Schmid, 2 up, in the 18-hole, match-play

final of the Santa Ana Country Club President’s Cup completed April

24.

The President’s Cup was contested over two months, with Bock

winning five matches to claim the titles. He defeated Stan Luker in

the semifinals while Schmid reached the final with a victory over

John Younkin.

Work began two weeks ago to improve drainage of 15 bunkers

throughout Santa Ana Country Club, said Mike Reehl, the club’s

director of golf.

“We want to divert water around them and make them more accessible

getting in and out of them, along with being visually appealing,”

Reehl said.

Some cart paths will also be repaired.

* Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club will hold its member/guest

tournament May 15-16.

* The ninth annual California women’s state championship,

featuring the top women’s amateur golfers, will be held July 19-21 at

the Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook.

Eligibility is limited to 100 amateurs who are California

residents and have a United States Golf Association handicap index of

10.4 or less.

The tournament consists of 54 holes of stroke play.

Cost is $195 per player and entries close June 19.

* Goodwill Industries of Orange County will host its annual golf

tournament at Pelican Hill Golf Club June 17.

The tournament raises funds for Goodwill’s job training and

placement programs for people with disabilities and other barriers to

employment in the county.

Last year’s event grossed more than $125,000.

Dan Rogers, a Costa Mesa resident and member at Santa Ana Country

Club, is in his third year as the nonprofit’s president and chief

executive officer.

Goodwill donation centers are located at Hi Time Wine Cellars (250

Ogle St.) in Costa Mesa and St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church

(3233 Pacific View Dr.) in Corona del Mar.
