A fine Fish Fry coming along

JIM DE BOOM

Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club President Raul Jara notes the

plans for the June 5 and 6 Lions Club Fish Fry being held at Lions

Park next to the Costa Mesa Community Center are coming along just

fine. The weekend will include carnival booths and rides,

face-painting, hot dogs, pies, corn on the cob, live entertainment, a

baby contest, Miss Costa Mesa Contest and, of course, a fish and

chips dinner at $7 a plate.

After your visit to your church or temple or the kids’ soccer or

baseball game, take the whole family to the Fish Fry. It’s a family

community festival like none other in the area. For complete details,

visit the Lions Fish Fry website at https://www.geocities.com/lions

AZ TAFT REMEMBERED

Barbara and I join the Newport Harbor Exchange Club in mourning

the death of long time member AZ Taft on April 26. In addition to

membership and leadership in the Exchange Club, AZ had been active in

the Newport Beach community for decades. Barbara and AZ served

together a number of years ago on the Newport Beach Parks, Beaches

and Recreation Commission. AZ loved to travel and our paths crossed

six years ago while Barbara and I were on vacation in Cape Cod when

he called out my name in a crowd of tourists. We had a cup of coffee

together and compared Cape Cod to Newport Beach. We agreed we like to

visit Cap Cod and loved to live in Newport Beach. AZ never had a bad

word to say about anyone and he always had a warm greeting for all.

He will be missed.
