Freedom of speech is hardly a hobby

Peggy Normandin’s comments, published May 1 in the “Mailbag”

section, voiced her distress over “skewed thinking,” “unnatural

solution....against a woman’s heartfelt instinct,” “an abhorrent

procedure,” “propaganda” putting undue pressure on people to embrace

abortion as a healthy option, all in the direction of mothers and

daughters who marched together last month in Washington, D.C.

No one, including and especially government, should interfere with

the personal and private matters of a women’s reproductive options

and healthcare.

And while abortion would not be every woman’s choice with respect

to an unwanted pregnancy, it should remain a medically safe option

for any woman who would so choose.

Abortion should not be thrown back to the dark ages of the black

market and back-alley butchers.

I marched with my daughter and my sister in Washington, D.C on

April 25, along with approximately a million others, which included

all types of people -- individuals, friends, families, etc.

We marched because we believe that government has no place in a

woman’s reproductive decisions, and we marched because we see today’s

government overstepping into the private lives of the citizens it

represents.

Freedom of speech, particularly political speech, is hardly “a

hobby.”
