Marlins continue streak

The Marlins ran their win streak in Majors Division play at Ocean

View Little League to five games following a 7-6 extra innings win

over the Indians and a 10-5 win over the Angels.

Starting pitcher Derek Hintz was the big gun for the Marlins

against the Indians. He hit a two-run home run and a pair of singles

and scored three times.

Brandon Holland, who earlier in the game had an RBI triple, began

the game-turning rally in the seventh when he doubled and scored the

winning run on Alden Mathews’ double.

Kyle McCarty also doubled for the Marlins.

Against the Angels, McCarty’s double, two singles and RBI led a

potent Marlins attack.

Carmen Mahdad hit a two-run double, Victor Herrera tripled,

Mathews had two singles and an RBI, Holland had an RBI, and Jared

Shaft and Garrick Danner each had two singles for the Marlins.

In other Majors Division games:

Cubs 3, Yankees 1

Cody Wilkinson’s two-run double in the bottom of the first inning

sent the Cubs on their way toward victory.

A double steal by Nathan Sapia and Chad Hackworth in the second

led to another run and a 3-0 lead.

Other Cubs’ hits were a triple by Montana Merhoff, double by Sean

Guite and a single by Sapia.

Jordan Miller and Guite combined pitching efforts for the Cubs.

Cody Springer, Chris Berry and Tommy Diecidue had hits for the

Yankees.

Cubs 6, Indians 2

A five-run fourth inning broke open a tight game for the Cubs.

Sean Guite doubled and later scored on Calvin Primich’s two-out

single in the opening inning to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.

Guite pitched the first three innings and shut out the Indians

while the offense nursed the lead. But in the fourth, the Cubs

produced five runs to pull away.

With one out, Primich doubled home two runs and back-to-back

doubles by Montana Merhoff and Chad Hackworth led to three more runs

and a 6-0 lead.

Guite, Primich and Jason Fernandez each had two hits for the Cubs.

Lars Jenson had a pair of hits for the Indians.

In Minor A Division action:

Yankees 3, Giants 2

Timothy Larson gave up just two runs in four innings pitched and

also had two hits as the Yankees upset the Giants.

David Elias pitched two scoreless innings and made a double play,

Thomas Harer caught a line drive at second that led to a double play

and Richard Bray had a two-RBI single for the Yankees.

Giants 5, Angels 3

Both teams managed 10 hits and the win allowed the Giants to hold

on to third-place in the division standings.

Casey Hayes went three for three, Grant Van Dyke had two hits and

an RBI, Travis Corey had a pair of hits and Grant Mayeaux, Austin

Barlow, Brandon Stadler and Dee Atwood each had an RBI for the

Giants.

Barlow struck out nine in four innings pitched.

Yankees 3, Giants 2

The Yankees’ Casey Cruz stole home in the 5th inning to break a

2-2 tie.

Yankees pitchers Tim Larson and David Elias held the Giants

scoreless after the first inning and struck out nine batters.

The Giants used four pitchers who combined for 14 strikeouts.

Marlins 10, Cubs 0

Tyler Mildenberg and Devin King each threw three shutout innings

and limited the Cubs to just six hits while striking out eight as the

Marlins maintained their grip on the division lead with their

ninth-straight win.

King also had two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, one of

which came on a home run -- his fourth of the season.

Mildenberg went three for three with two runs scored and Jack

Rulon went three for three with a double, two RBIs and run scored.

Every Marlins batter managed to record a hit.

Marlins 9, Angels 3

The Marlins scored runs in each inning to down the Angels.

Tyler Mildenberg and Devin King again combined pitching duties for

the win.

Mildenberg helped his own cause by going three for three with two

runs scored, Andrew Brine had two hits and King and Jake Caron each

had single, RBI and run scored.

In Minor B Division action:

Tigers 8, Dodgers 4

Wyatt Marlow struck out nine of the 14 batters he faced in three

innings for the Tigers.

Ethan Marlow closed on the mound and struck out six.

The two Marlows, and Dylan Wright, all doubled.

Tigers 8, Reds 5

Jake Bryant and Wyatt Marlow combined for 14 strikeouts for the

Tigers.

Marlow and Cameron Fee and each went three for three.

A’s 13, Marlins 12

Keys hits by Patrick Poss, Josh Said and Tyler Hammock, and the

pitching of David Feirstein enabled the A’s to rally past the

Marlins.

A’s , 5 Pirates 3

David Festering and Tyler Hammock pitched for the A’s, Josh Said

had two hits and three runs scored and David Feirstein went three for

three as the A’s won their ninth straight game.
