“My adrenaline was going good and I felt good. I just needed a plan

because there were three of them. I figured if they were going to

give me too much of a hard time, I would let them have it. But I

figured I could bluff my way [out of it].”

-- Jeffrey Moore, who chased down teenage bike thieves last

weekend.

“Really, try to become part of the community and give back. And

give back more than you receive. Most of us here are more fortunate

than 99% of the world.”

-- Billie Jean King, co-owner of the World TeamTennis Newport

Beach Breakers team, during a stop in Newport last week.

“I’m sure there are some details that are still fluid. We’re up

here to see what those details are and what can be accomplished

between now and tomorrow and to get a feel of what the assembly is

looking at. The best thing we can do is make a deal with the

governor. At the same time, we have to make sure the deal is

palatable and that we can live with it.”

-- Gary Monahan, Costa Mesa mayor, on the deal struck between

cities and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that hurts now financially but

is expected to save cities in the long run. Costa Mesa and Newport

Beach both stand to lose about $2 million for the next two years.

“From a business perspective it’s good news. On the one hand we

appreciate the fact that there are additional flights and additional

terminals to accommodate the passengers of those flights. On the

other hand, the chamber has always supported limits on flights and

we’re very interested in making sure that noise levels are

maintained.”

-- Richard Luehrs, president of the Newport Beach Chamber of

Commerce, on new gates at John Wayne Airport.
