Five teams in CIF mix

The boys volleyball teams from Estancia and Corona del Mar high

schools both play host to CIF Southern Section quarterfinal opponents

to highlight five playoff contests in three sports involving

Newport-Mesa schools today.

Estancia (25-6), the No. 1 seed in CIF Division III boys

volleyball, meets Hemet (17-1), the San Andreas League champion, at 7

p.m..

CdM (20-10), the No. 4 seed in CIF Division II, faces San Luis

Obispo (17-1) at 7 p.m. in boys volleyball.

In baseball, CdM (20-5), the No. 3 seed in CIF Division IV, plays

host to Cabrillo of Lompoc (17-10) in a first-round game at 3 p.m.

Cabrillo, which tied for second in the Los Padres League, defeated

Santa Paula, 5-0, in Tuesday’s wild-card round.

Sage Hill School (14-7) visits Calvary Chapel of Murrieta (16-6)

in a CIF Division V first-round baseball game at 3:15 p.m.

On the softball diamond, CdM (17-8), which earned the program’s

first CIF playoff victory Wednesday with a 5-2 Division IV wild-card

conquest of Mary Star of the Sea, visits Pioneer League champion

Culver City (19-6) at 3:15 p.m.

In another CIF playoff development, the Sage Hill boys volleyball

team (17-1) will play top-seeded Pasadena Poly in Wednesday’s CIF

Division V semifinal at an alternate site of Pasadena Poly’s

choosing.
