Breakers fall to Titans

The long ball went a long way Monday in the Pacific Coast League

baseball finale for Tesoro and Laguna Beach.

The host Breakers got big-time home runs by Alex Wilson and Grant

Harrell, but neither could overcome a red-hot hitting Tesoro team

that pounded out six home runs en route to a 14-3 victory.

Laguna got off to a promising start in their final game of the

season.

After Wilson sent the Titans down in order in the top of the first

inning, he aided his cause by belting a two-run home run to give the

Breakers a 2-0 lead.

A shift in the wind at the start of the second inning ensured that

Laguna’s lead wouldn’t last long.

Tesoro hit all six of its home runs in the second inning, several

of which were simple pop-ups that the wind took over the short fence

in left-centerfield.

The Titans used those six homers to produce eight runs.

Harrell hit a solo homer for Laguna in the third inning.

Three days earlier, Laguna dropped a 13-1 home decision to

Northwood.

Harrell also hit a solo homer in the game, this one coming in the

fifth inning, to give Laguna its lone run.

The visiting Timberwolves took control from the start, scoring two

runs in each of the first two innings before busting out with a

six-run third inning for a 10-0 lead.

Previously, Laguna was blanked by host Tesoro, 5-0.

Despite the loss, Harrell pitched a strong game in giving up six

hits and striking out 11.

Three of Tesoro’s runs were unearned.

Laguna ended its first season under head coach Tom Faris with an

overall record of 5-19.

The Breakers went 3-12 in PCL play.
