on Memorial Day

Newport Beach residents who have their trash picked up on Mondays

will not get service on Memorial Day, May 31. Instead, their trash

will be picked up the next day. For more information, call the city’s

Library to open doors for new plans

Mariners Library will host a community open house from 7 to 9 p.m.

on June 2.

The purpose of the open house is to allow community members to

view architectural renderings, elevations and site plans of the new

branch of Mariners Public Library. Volunteers and staff members will

be available to answer questions and coffee from Starbucks will be

offered.

The event will take place at the Penny Farrell Theatre at Mariners

Elementary School, 2100 Mariners Drive in Newport Beach. For more

Dogs may get a drinking fountain

Dog-lovers will meet at Fairview Park Saturday for the third “Paws

Around the Park” fundraiser.

The event will feature a dog walk along some of the trails in

Fairview Park. Attendees can pledge for a dog drinking fountain at

the park. Dogs must be on-leash and registered for the event to

participate.

The registration fee is $10 and advance registration is

encouraged. The three who collect the most pledges will get prizes.

The annual event takes place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. To register,

Looking good and feeling even better

The American Cancer Society, with the National Cosmetology Assn.

and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Assn., will host “Look Good

... Feel Better” on June 14 at Hoag Hospital.

The class will teach cancer patients makeup, wig and turban tips

to help hide the effects of radiation and chemotherapy treatment. The

event is from 10 a.m. to noon. Classes are free, but registration is
