Passenger numbers climb at JWA

Passenger levels at John Wayne Airport rose again in April as

100,000 more passed through the airport than a year earlier, airport

officials said Monday.

Airport officials reported a 16.1% increase in passengers, from

660,392 in April 2003 to 766,924 last month. Total aircraft

operations rose 7.9% to 31,112.

“Each of the first four individual months of the year have set

monthly records for John Wayne Airport passenger levels,” Airport

Director Alan Murphy said in a press release. “We have yet to reach

Memorial Day and we are already experiencing busy holiday and summer

travel type passenger levels almost on a daily basis.”

Fairview Park program wins award

Costa Mesa’s Fairview Park Mitigation Bank Program won an

Outstanding Planning Award on May 10 from the Orange County chapter

of the American Planning Assn. The city has pioneered efforts to

develop this creative concept of mitigation banking.

The program enables developers to purchase mitigation credits in

Fairview Park for wetlands impacts from off-site development

projects. The credits go toward the restoration of vernal pools,

enhancement of habitat and the long-term viability of restoration

efforts.
