Lakers pick up win

Coach Matthew Renault’s Lakers posted their first victory of the

Junior Basketball League season by defeating the Kings of Coach Bobby

Monroe, 57-52, at Laguna Beach High.

The Lakers were led by Alex Vasquez, who exploded for a personal

season high 35 points.

The Lakers raced to a 35-26 halftime lead behind 24 points by

Vasquez.

The Kings, however, rallied to take a 50-49 lead into the final

quarter.

Armand Begay backed Vasquez with 13 points.

Jack Monroe connected on three, three-point baskets and led the

Kings with 26 points.

Teammate Jason House added 14 points.

In other games:

Artists 73, Ducks 64

Kevin Buck scored a season-high 28 points to lead the Joshua

Cendeno-coached Ducks.

Buck hit nine of his 11 free throw attempts.

Clay Knapp chipped in 12 points and Dylan Norris had a season-high

eight points for the Artists.

A trio of Ducks scored in double figures, led by Dylan Doumeng’s

21 points.

Marcus Hairston scored 16 points and Matthew Matsuyama scored 14.

White Uniforms 66, Nuggets 55

Dylan Roley scored a season-high 27 points to lead the upset.

Roley hit three, three-point shots and went six of seven from the

foul line.

Austin Hyden contributed 16 points for Coach Cataldo Alessi’s

White Uniforms.

League scoring leader Daniel Morrison had another big outing with

29 points to lead the Nuggets of Coach Sean Bedrick.

Christian Kesler added 10 points for the Nuggets.
