Angels silence Dodgers

Blake Thomsen singled in David Weiland with the game’s only run and

the Angels defeated the Dodgers, 1-0, in the Newport Beach Little

League Majors National League championship game May 22.

The Angels, who won their fourth straight playoff game, received a

stellar effort from pitcher Jamie Heinecke, who extended his

scoreless streak in the playoffs to 14 innings with the shutout.

Right fielder Mikey Pawell threw out the potential tying run at

the plate and Emil Peterson stopped a line drive in the third inning.

Mike Moorhead and Ryan Grable added hits for the Angels, who faced

the Reds in the league championship game Thursday.

Ben Capaldi led the Dodgers at the plate and on the mound.

Capaldi had two hits while retiring the side in order in three

innings on the hill.

Doug Watt allowed one run in his three innings and added a hit.

Andrew Machoskie, Donald Dalton, Trent Anderson and T.J. Danner each

tallied hits for the Dodgers.

In Pony action:

* Newport Harbor Storm 10, Newport Harbor Greenjackets 0:

Eric Holland tossed a two-hitter for his second consecutive

victory and the Storm scored 10 runs for the second straight contest

in a five-inning contest at Mariners Park May 20.

Holland struck out four and walked one in a 57-pitch outing.

Danny Moskovits started the scoring onslaught with a base-clearing

double to score two of the four runs in the first. Moskovits, who

went 2 for 3, later singled and scored twice.

The Storm had timely hitting throughout.

Adrian Luchs singled in two runs while Tim High, Michael

Carscadden and Zach Gagnon all drove in runs with key hits.
