COSTA MESA

A daughter gives her mother the gift of life

Paula Baggett, who is donating a kidney to her mother, Pauline

Todd, is trying to raise funds for some of the ancillary expenses for

the operation, which will take place in June at Johns Hopkins

Hospital in Baltimore. To donate, send a check to Christ Lutheran

Ministries, 760 Victoria St., Costa Mesa and write “kidney

transplant” on the memo line.

* The Pacific Amphitheatre will soon be hosting more than rock

concerts. On Thursday, the fair board approved a nearly $12-million

face-lift for the amphitheater at the fairgrounds. It should be ready

to host concerts, plays, symphonies and operas next summer.

The fair board also decided Thursday to develop a request for

proposals for the lease of the Orange County Market Place in-house.

It had looked at having an outside consultant do it to make it more

objective, but none of the consultants who submitted bids had the

requisite experience with lease agreements.

* Expect to see more police and firemen on the lookout for illegal

fireworks this Fourth of July. Police Chief John Hensley and Fire

Chef Jim Ellis created a plan to team up police officers and

firefighters and have them search for those using illegal fireworks

or using legal fireworks where they shouldn’t be, such as in public

parks.
