Costa Mesa to honor life-saving resident

Costa Mesa resident Timothy Montag will be honored in June with

the Mayor’s Award for pulling a man from a burning car.

On May 4, Montag came upon a two-vehicle accident at the

intersection of Adams Avenue and Mesa Verde Drive. Because of the

accident, both cars had rolled over and one was on fire. Montag

stopped to offer help and risked his own safety to pull the driver

from the burning car.

Soon after the rescue, the passenger compartment of the car became

fully engulfed in flames. The Costa Mesa Police Department credits

Montag for saving the driver’s life.

Montag will receive the award at the City Council meeting at 6:30

p.m., June 7 at City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.
