‘Babes in Arms’ auditions set for the weekend

No Square Theatre will hold auditions for roles in “Babes in

Arms,” a musical by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. The cast will

include characters of all ages.

The play will be produced by Bree Burgess Rosen and Adam Hemming

with choreography by Linda Haylett and Vanessa Schneller. Auditions

are by appointment from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday at No Square Theatre’s rehearsal studio, 1863 S. Coast

Highway. Performances will be in August. Casting information is

Schaar Gallery to celebrate anniversary

Schaar Gallery will celebrate its 18th anniversary with a private

reception and show for collectors on Saturday with the show opening

Sunday for the public.

Featured will be Robert Schaar’s new series of California

landscapes and images of France and Italy from his recent travels.

Watercolorist Joe Jaqua will be showing new paintings of San

Francisco and France, as well as other gallery artists showing

paintings from scenes from around the world.

The gallery is known for it’s art by accomplished artists from

California, the Northwest, Brazil, the Netherlands and Australia,

featuring acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings and sculpture.

‘Festival of Mosaics’ call for materials

The arts commission is planning for five mosaic murals in the

outdoor courtyard at Lang park and is inviting Laguna residents to

participate.

The project will be done in three phases. The first phase, “Call

for Materials,” is now open through June 26. Residents are asked to

submit materials that may become part of the future finished

artworks. Appropriate items to submit include tiles, glass, ceramics,

marbles, minerals or stones.

Drop off materials at Lang Park, 21549 Wesley Park from 9 to 11

a.m. Saturday, June 12, 19 and 26.

The second phase, open now through July 30, is a design

competition for professional mosaic artists. In the final phase, the

program will culminate in a five-day festival at the Lang Park

outdoor Courtyard in November. Residents will be invited to

participate in the hands-on creation of the finished murals.

Phyllis Lutjeans at Laguna Art Museum

Laguna Art Museum’s Talk of the Town Lecture at 11 a.m. on Sunday will feature Phyllis Lutjeans leading a discussion, “Looking at

Modern Art: Education vs. Intuition.” The lecture is free to Museum

members and free with Museum admission.

Lutjeans is a former curator of education and performance art,

gallery owner, museum scientist at the UC Irvine’s Fine Art Gallery,

and founder of the Art Crowd, a discussion group focused on

contemporary art issues.
