Covering news events for the Daily Pilot often involves photographing

something tragic, like an accident or a fire. However, last week, a

breaking news event was phoned into the paper that was tragic -- only

in the loss of water.

A truck had accidentally knocked over a fire hydrant at Balboa

Boulevard and A Street on Balboa Peninsula.

When I got there, city workers were trying feverishly to turn off

the gushing water, which had turned into a geyser, shooting 40 feet

into the air. But for a group of neighborhood children, the geyser

turned into a temporary water park. That is when I caught this image

of Steven Jensen and Yuta Kanbayas running through the water.
