Sprowl garners highest award

Corona del Mar High senior first baseman Barrett Sprowl has been

named the Pacific Coast League’s Most Valuable Player, while seniors

Blake Contant and Todd Macklin were honored as Co-Pitchers of the

Year.

Sprowl, Contant and Macklin helped lead the Sea Kings to a perfect

15-0 record in the PCL, as well as a CIF Southern Section Division IV

championship.

Senior outfielder Nik Palchikoff, junior outfielder Wess Presson,

senior designated hitter Josh Bradbury and senior shortstop Jeritt

Thayer earned first-team, all-league laurels. Senior third baseman

Tyler Lance and freshman second baseman Jake Lemmerman received

second-team recognition.

Sprowl, a second-team selection as a junior, led the team in hits

(53), doubles (15) and batting average (.500). He was second on the

squad in on-base percentage (.583) and slugging percentage (.806),

and tied for second in RBIs (25).

Macklin, headed to USC next year, led Corona del Mar with 65

strikeouts and nine wins. His 3.02 ERA was the second-lowest for the

Sea Kings this year and his five home runs were tied for second to

help lead Coach John Emme’s squad to 17 consecutive wins to end the

season.

Contant, who will be a preferred walk-on at the University of

Arizona next season, led the team with a 1.68 ERA, as well as 87 1/3

pitched and 12 wins. He also had four saves and he recorded 64

strikeouts.

Bradbury, last year’s PCL MVP, led the team with 11 home runs. He was tied for second on the team with 25 RBIs

Palchikoff paced the Sea Kings with 31 RBIs and was tied for

second with five home runs.

Presson’s eight stolen bases were tops for CdM. Presson, a

second-team honoree as a sophomore, was tied for second on the team

with 25 RBIs and third with 29 runs scored and 32 hits.

Thayer led the Sea Kings with 77 defensive assists and a .544

on-base percentage. He was second on the team with a .463 batting

average.

Lance was tied on the team with 24 RBIs and finished fourth with a

.417 batting average.

Lemmerman led CdM with six sacrifice hits and was second on the

team with 55 assists.

Rounding out the first team are Bryon Evans, Curtis Hill and Derek

Craddock from Tesoro, Northwood’s Tim Carrier, Jason Rice from

University and Laguna Beach’s Conley Sampson.
