Stewart, Oakley put on good show at track meet

Dustin Stewart and Matt Oakley, two Huntington Beach athletes, earned

top finishes at two recent prestigious track meets.

At the Southern California Championship meet put on by the

Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation at Gahr High in

Cerritos, Stewart finished in second-place and Oakley placed third in

the boys’ 50-meter dash.

The two were also one place apart in the boys’ 100-meter dash, as

Stewart finished fourth and Oakley finished fifth.

The Southern California Championships drew athletes from Orange,

San Diego and Los Angeles counties, as well as the Inland Empire.

Athletes qualified for the meet by placing among the top five at

their respective city and county meets.

At the Orange County Meet held at Trabuco Hills High in May,

Stewart ran a 7.9 to win the boys’ 50-meter dash. His time just edged

out an 8.0 by Oakley, who finished in second-place.

Stewart also won the boys’ 100-meter dash in 14.7 and Oakley

finished third with a 15.0.

In Fountain Valley Pony Baseball action:

Four teams still in hunt for Pony Minor title

Four teams -- the A’s, Cubs, Reds and Dodgers, four of the

division’s top five seeds -- remain in the hunt for the Pony Minor

Division title.

The championship final will be played at 9 a.m. Saturday at

Fountain Valley High.

Fountain Valley Pony Baseball is composed of players from

Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

A’s 10, Mariners 5

To reach the final four, the top-seeded A’s defeated the

seventh-seeded Mariners.

Andy Ragsdale and Race Parmenter split pitching duties and allowed

five runs on six hits by the Dalton Hintz, Beau Amaral, Blake Cest’r,

Casey Cagle and Matt Streit.

Nyko Gonzalez led the A’s by belting a pair of triples and a

double.

Danny Tierney, Trevor Springman and Anthony Falcon each had a pair

of singles for the A’s.

Reds 13, Astros 0

Reds pitcher Johnny Olive hit a home run and a grand slam to power

the Reds past the division’s eighth-seed.

Sean Carpentier added a pair of singles to the Reds’ hitting

attack.
