Marlins are King in Ocean View Minor A play
Devin King delivered his sixth home run of the season in dramatic
fashion Monday as his blast in the bottom of the seventh inning
proved to be the difference as the Marlins rallied past the Dodgers,
8-7, in Ocean View Little League Minor A Division play at Murdy Park.
King’s homer gave the Marlins sole possession of first place and
the division title.
They will compete later this month at the District 62 Little
League Tournament of Champions.
The Marlins trailed, 7-6, heading into the bottom of the sixth.
With two out and a Ryan Lewis facing a 3-2 count, Lewis fouled off
two pitches before hitting a clutch double to deep left field to keep
the Marlins’ hopes alive.
He proceeded to steal third and later scored on a wild pitch to
tie the game.
The Marlins were able to keep the game close against a talented
Dodgers team when, with runners on base in the fourth inning, Connor
Diegelman made a diving catch in center field to end the scoring
threat.
King, who pitched three strong innings, shut out the Dodgers in
the top of the seventh, setting up his game-winning homer.
Tyler Mildenberg, Greg Schooley, Conner Miller, Jack Rulon and
Andrew Brine also had big games for the Marlins, who take a 16-5
record into the upcoming District 62 Tournament of Champions.
