Okwudibonye signs with Cal State Northridge

Ocean View High basketball standout Greg Okwudibonye, a senior,

has singed a national letter of intent with Cal State Northridge,

Matadors men’s basketball coach Bobby Braswell announced.

Okwudibonye, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound guard, is the 33rd recruit to

sign a National Letter of Intent with the Matadors during the

Braswell era.

He selected Cal State Northridge over Long Beach State, Sacramento

State and Pepperdine.

“We are extremely excited to have a student-athlete the caliber of

Greg Okwudibonye as a part of our basketball family,” Braswell said

in a statement. “He comes from a very successful high school program

that we have had the opportunity to watch this past season. He is a

slasher, a scorer, a shooter and a solid defender that is only going

to get better through the years. He will compliment our veteran

players very well and be a great and immediate contributor to this

program.”

During the 2003-04 season, Okwudibonye led Ocean View to a 22-7

overall record and 12-0 Golden West League record as the school won

its fourth consecutive league title.

He averaged 14.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists

per game for the Seahawks. He shot 58.9 percent from the field and

44.2 percent from three-point range.

A two-time MVP at the school, Okwudibonye also earned first-team

All-Golden West League honors in 2003 and again in 2004.

This past season, he also was awarded second-team All-CIF honors

as well as being mentioned as a McDonald’s All-American nominee.

In his four years at Ocean View, the Seahawks compiled a 94-24

(.797) record and won at least 20 games in each of his four prep

seasons.
