Man critically injured in accident

A Huntington Beach motorcyclist was critically injured after he

crashed into two stopped cars Monday in Laguna Beach.

The collision happened at about 3:48 p.m. at the intersection of

Third Street and Park Avenue in Laguna Beach. Erich Mueller, 31,

suffered multiple injuries after he crashed his 2001 Kawasaki Ninja into a 2000 Volkswagen Cabriolet, his body then hit a 1998 Honda

Civic that was stopped in front of the Cabriolet before hitting the

pavement, police said.

Mueller suffered multiple leg fractures, rib fractures, a broken

left shoulder and bleeding on the brain, Laguna Beach Sgt. Jason

Kravetz said. He was airlifted to Mission Hospital, where he is

listed in critical condition.

Police said they believe Mueller sped up the Third Street hill too

quickly before the crash.

Man may lose arm after car crash

A man from Palo Verdes Estates suffered major injuries to his arm

after he crashed into two parked vehicles on South Coast Highway

Tuesday.

John Nelson was the only person in his Toyota 4Runner when it

crashed at 10:29 p.m. in the 31400 block of South Coast Highway. The

impact forced Nelson’s truck to roll over onto its left side. His arm

went out of the window and the truck slipped over Nelson’s arm, Sgt.

George Ramos said.

Nelson was flown to UC Irvine Medical Center and received

emergency surgery. Ramos said that police received information on

Wednesday afternoon that Nelson was recovering, though it was

possible he could lose his arm.
