Eagles’ Kornegay MVP
Recent Estancia High graduate Josh Kornegay has been named CIF
Southern Section Division III Most Valuable Player in boys
volleyball, leading a group of 11 Newport-Mesa area athletes awarded
All-CIF laurels.
Kornegay, the 6-foot-4 opposite who helped lead the Eagles to the
CIF Division III championship, recorded 210 kills, 42 service aces
and 113 blocks. He also shared MVP honors in the Golden West League
with teammate Kris Hartwell.
Estancia graduates Scott Sankey and Hartwell, in Division III, as
well as Corona del Mar junior Tom Welch in Division II and Sage Hill
School graduate Kevin Joyce in Division V, also earned first-team
All-CIF honors.
Newport Harbor graduate Morgan Govaars was a second-team honoree
in Division I, while CdM junior Kevin Welch, Estancia junior Trevor
Holmes, and Sage Hill graduate Macson Frederick represent their
schools on the second team in Divisions III, II and V, respectively.
CdM setter Dominic Rubino, another graduate, and Sage Hill
graduate setter Julian Smith-Newman received third-team recognition.
Coach Tracey Ingraham, who guided the Eagles to a 23-6 record, as
well as Golden West League and CIF Division III titles, was named
Coach of the Year in Division III.
