The Costa Mesa National Little League Minor B Padres were eliminated

from the District 62 Tournament of Champions, 3-1, by the Seaview

Mariners at LeBard Park Saturday.

Five walks and a single in the top of the first gave the Mariners

three quick runs. The Padres produced a run in the bottom of the

inning, when Alex DeSoto singled in Jeff Carlyle, who stole second

after being hit by a pitch.

The Padres had a chance to score in the third, when Jonathan Ball

singled with two outs and runners on first and second. But a runner

trying to score from second was thrown out at the plate.

Another scoring opportunity occurred in the fifth, when Tyler Rios

and Levi Stillman got on base. A high pop fly by Carlyle could have

scored both to tie the game, but the Mariners’ left fielder made the

grab to end the threat.

Padres Manager Rob Stillman said Ryan West pitched a great game,

at one point, striking out eight of 12 he faced.

Stillman also praised the defensive of first baseman Jake Stone.
