Harbor View victorious over Greenbrooke

The Harbor View swim team collected 54 of 70 first-place finishes in

six age divisions of boys and girls competition, leading to a 680-521

victory over host Greenbrooke in a youth dual meet in Fountain Valley

on Saturday.

The Harbor View boys won 24 races to Greenbrooke’s nine within six

age divisions, while the Harbor View girls eclipsed Greenbrooke,

30-7, in first-place finishes in six age groups.

In the girls 15-18 division, Harbor View’s Ashley Chandler, who

will be a junior at Corona del Mar High in the fall, won the 100-yard

freestyle in 56.74 seconds and the 50 butterfly in 28.27.

Harbor View’s Matt Berry won three events in the boys 9-10

division: the 50 free (31.82), 50 backstroke (38.24) and 100

individual medley (1:23.48).

Meet highlights also included three victories by Harbor View’s

Ellen Naruse in the girls 7-8 division. She won the 25 fly (17.54),

50 free (36.65) and 25 back (19.56). Naruse’s time in the 25 back was

a personal best.

Harbor View’s Melissa Hohl also set a personal record in the 50

back (34.15) of the girls 13-14 division. Her previous best was

35.53. Kevin Cox of Harbor View lowered his time in the 50 fly of the

boys 13-14 division by two-tenths of a second, touching the wall at

31.27.
