Local athletes earn MVP honors

Four local athletes earned MVP honors as Sunset and Golden West

All-League selections were revealed for baseball, softball and boys

volleyball.

In baseball, Jeff Roth of Ocean View shared the Golden West

League’s baseball MVP with David DeLeon of Santa Ana.

The Sunset League baseball MVP award was shared by Huntington

Beach senior Nathan Keadle and Esperanza senior Sean Rooney.

The Oilers’ Colin Balester, also a senior, was named league

Pitcher of the Year, and Benji Medure was named Coach of the Year.

Huntington Beach won its first Sunset League title in 12 years.

Sophomore Krystal Heinle of Marina was named the Sunset League’s

Most Valuable Pitcher for the second year in a row.

Heinle also had been named Rookie of the Year as a freshman last

year, a title that went this year to fellow Viking Michelle Fuzzard,

also a freshman.

In boys volleyball, Huntington senior Brandon McLaughlin was named

Sunset League MVP.

McLaughlin shared the honor with Fountain Valley senior Michael

Jordan.

The Oilers and Barons shared the 2004 Sunset League boys

volleyball championship.
