Two members of the Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball program have

been named to the 2004 All-CIF Southern Section/Amateur Athletic

Foundation’s Division II teams, the Southern Section office recently

announced.

Luke Morris, an outside hitter, was one of eight players named

first team.

Morris was one of two juniors to make the squad, joining Corona

del Mar’s Tom Welch.

Opposite Trey Chapel, a senior, was named to the eight-member

second team.

“I was surprised and really happy at the same time,” Morris said.

“I think the honor will help the team for next year. I think next

year’s team is going to be a huge threat.

“This is probably one of the biggest things to happen to me in my

volleyball career.”

Morris, who currently is playing for the Balboa Bay Club 17-1

team, received the Captain’s Award and Best Defensive Player award

for Laguna, and was an All-Pacific Coast League first team member.

Chapel also was a first team All-PCL pick.

Joining Morris, Chapel and Welch on the All-CIF-SS/AAF team were

fellow Pacific Coast League players Brett Vanlandingham of Northwood

and Tim Steadman of Tesoro.

Both were second team selections.

Laguna, which finished second in the Pacific Coast League race to

champion Corona del Mar, advanced to the semifinal round of the

playoffs before being eliminated by Santa Barbara.

Valencia High of Valencia topped the Division II teams by having

senior Tony Ker named the division MVP, and Mark Knudsen being named

coach of the year.

Valencia defeated Santa Barbara in the Division II final.
