Tobin opening at Gallery McCollum

Gallery McCollum will have an opening reception for artist Patrick

Tobin’s exhibit of new paintings, “Vamos a la Playa” from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday.

Art patrons can check out his new work and converse with the

artist. Christopher Arpad will provide musical entertainment with

Dr. Seuss exhibit at Fingerhut Gallery

Fingerhut Gallery will show “The Art of Dr. Seuss -- A

Retrospective Exhibition,” through July 5. The exhibit chronicles a

rarely seen side of Theodor Geisel including early works and poetry,

advertising campaigns, WWII editorial cartoons, magazine covers from

the 1920s and 30s, some never before seen work from his personal

archives and more. The gallery is at 210 A Forest Ave.

Festival of Mosaics drop off is Saturday

The Arts Commission is planning five mosaic murals in the outdoor

courtyard at the Lang Park Community Center.

Residents are invited to participate in the “Festival of Mosaics”

project by submitting decorative materials. Tiles, glass, ceramics,

marbles, minerals or stones are accepted materials that might become

a part of the future finished works.

Drop off is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Lang Park, 21540 Wesley

Arts Commission will dedicate piece

The city’s arts commission invites the public to attend the

dedication of “Five Frog Bench,” by John Alabaster at 5 p.m. July 1

at 417 S. Coast Highway prior to First Thursdays Art Walk. The

location is outside Hotel Laguna with a reception following at the

hotel. Art Walk is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Unveiling Laguna college works July 1

Three Laguna College of Art and Design students, Melissa Devine,

Dennis McElroy and Matt Talbert, under the project direction of

George Zebot, chair of illustration, were commissioned by the Hotel

Laguna to create seven large cafe scene oil paintings for the Lounge.

The unveiling event will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the

Lounge, 425 S. Coast Highway. For information, call the college at

Gallery celebrates anniversary

The Crystal Image gallery will celebrate its one-year anniversary

starting Thursday through the weekend and will host some of the most

well-known North American gem carvers, as well as Brian Cook at the

gallery and other in-house associates.

Cook is the gallery’s curator and is a geologist and gemologist.

His distinctive 24-carat gold jewelry and stone carvings are

continuously on display.

“I am excited about stones from the process of genesis through the

use of intense colored gems into powerful jewels,” Cook said.

Other professional works on exhibit and for sale are by Susan

Allen, Michael Christie, Thomas McPhee, Nicolai Medvedev and Gil

Roberts.
