Diners can pick up certificates for the “Metro Lunch Bunch” at

participating restaurants, which include Antonello Ristorante, Avo’s

Bistro, Bluewater Grill, Bristol Palms California Bistro, Chat Noir,

Le Chateau Garde Bistro, the Clubhouse, Karl Strauss Brewery and

Restaurant, the Lodge, National Sports Grill, South Coast Metro Pat &

Once they redeem a certificate, they will be given another to use

the next time they eat lunch at one of the various restaurants. The

Toll roads chief executive to retire

Toll roads Chief Executive Wally Kreutzen announced this week he

will retire on Nov. 1.

Kreutzen has headed the Transportation Corridor Agencies, which

oversee the San Joaquin Hills and Foothill and Eastern toll roads,

for five years.

In a letter to toll roads governing board members, Kreutzen said

he had planned since 2003 to retire once toll roads officials

finished an environmental report for the Foothill/South Toll Road

extension and finished analyzing options to salvage the faltering

finances of the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road, both of which were

completed in May.

Kreutzen praised the accomplishments of the toll roads agency,

which built 51 miles of Orange County’s 67-mile toll-road system

during his tenure and installed the FasTrak system, one of the

nation’s first electronic toll-collection systems. The toll roads

governing boards will discuss recruitment of a new chief executive at

a July 8 meeting.

Fireworks stands will open at 10 a.m. today in Costa Mesa.

Twenty-eight organizations will have stands up around the city.

Fireworks have been an incendiary issue at City Hall for the past few

months, as city leaders grappled with how to restrict their sale.

Officials ultimately tightened the eligibility criteria for

selling fireworks, including the requirement that organizations

applying for fireworks-stand permits need at least 80% of their

members to live in Costa Mesa, with some exceptions.
