All-Stars open District 62 play today
Mike Sciacca
The road to Williamsport, Pa., home of the Little League World
Series, opened up this week for four area Little Leagues who are
competing at the 2004 District 62 All-Stars Tournament.
Huntington Valley, Ocean View, Robinwood and Seaview, along with
Costa Mesa American, Costa Mesa National, Fountain Valley and
Westminster, fall under the District 62 canopy.
The eight leagues are fielding All-Star teams in the Majors and
9/10 divisions. Huntington Valley, Robinwood, Fountain Valley and
Westminster have teams competing for the Junior League All-Stars
title.
The Area 1 Majors and 9/10 All-Stars competition is being played
at Robinwood Little League, while Seaview Little League is playing
host to the Area 2 side of the bracket. The Junior League tournament
is being hosted by Westminster Little League.
Each of the tournaments is a double-elimination format.
Tournament play began Wednesday in each division and continues
through July 14.
Wednesday’s games had Westminster taking on Ocean View and Seaview
battling Costa Mesa American in Majors play; Robinwood against
Westminster and Seaview facing Huntington Valley in 9/10 play; and
Fountain Valley tangling with Westminster in Junior League play.
Following today’s games, tournament action will not resume until
Wednesday due to the Fourth of July weekend.
