Protecting your animals July 4th
According to the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, celebrating the
Fourth of July is fun for people but not for pets.
It recommends keeping pets inside in a safe and quiet place.
Animal hearing is more sensitive than people’s. For pets who become
nervous or upset, consult a veterinarian about tranquilizers. The vet
will prescribe according to weight, age and condition of the animal.
It is important to consult a veterinarian because tranquilizers
can overdose or become toxic when combined with other medications,
flea collars or sprays.
Identification and current license tags with phone numbers
including area codes are important at all times, but especially
during the holidays when a pet can become frightened and run away.
More pets are lost at this time of the year than any other. If a pet
is lost or found the shelter suggests putting up signs, passing out
fliers and placing an ad in the local paper; check the shelters
frequently and have pictures and description details available.
