Newport Beach dealt first loss

The host Springfield Lasers outscored the Newport Beach Breakers,

10-2, in the final two doubles sets to cap a comeback that sent the

visitors to an 18-17 World Team Tennis loss Thursday at the Cooper

Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.

The Breakers (2-1) defeated the Lasers, 21-20, in a super tiebreaker to begin the season Monday and started strong Thursday

with Ramon Delgado and Aniko Kapros earning 5-2 and 5-3 victories in

men’s and women’s singles, respectively.

Delgado and Ellis Ferreira then claimed a 5-3 men’s doubles

victory over Springfield’s Jalal Chafai and Andrew Kratzmann to give

Newport a 15-8 lead before Springfield (1-2) took control in the

women’s and mixed doubles matches.
