John Hartley

Laguna Beach resident John Hartley died June 28 in Dana Point. He

was 89.

Born in Duluth, Minn., Mr. Hartley graduated from the Hill School,

Yale, class of 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked many years

as an architectural photographer. He had lived in Laguna Beach since

1971. He volunteered at the Friendship Shelter for many years.

Mr. Hartley is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth;

daughter Lisa Carden; son Stephen Hartley; and grandchildren Graham,

Cameron, Elisabeth and Hudson Carden and Bryce, Elle and Garrett

Hartley.

A service will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 6 in the clubhouse at Three

Arch Bay.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the

Friendship Shelter, P.O. Box 4252, Laguna Beach, CA, 92652.

Deas ‘Bruce’ H. Warley IV

Deas “Bruce” H. Warley IV died June 7. He was 41.

Mr. Warley was raised in Texas and moved to California in the

1980s. He lived in Laguna Beach for more than a decade before

relocating to Hollywood. While in Laguna, Mr. Warley could often be

seen along the beach and in the village with his dog Bentley. He

spent many years in the interior design business and as a caterer and

model in Los Angeles.

Mr. Warley is survived by his parents, Gene and Susie Warley of

Texas; and many siblings and friends in Texas and California.
