Taylor Dent, 23, a former Corona del Mar High standout, has been

selected to the U.S. Olympic men’s tennis team by Coach Patrick

McEnroe that will compete in the Summer Games in Athens, Greece next

month.

Dent, ranked 44th in the world, joins defending U.S. Open champion

Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, ranked 20th, No. 30 Vince Spadea and the

top-ranked doubles team of twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, on the

squad.

Roddick and Fish, along with the Bryan brothers, who make their

debut for the Newport Beach Breakers at 7 tonight against the

Delaware Smash at the Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach, are

slated to play doubles in Athens.

Dent won the CIF Southern Section singles title as a freshman in

1996, his only year of high school tennis.

golf team, shot 70-71--141 and finished in a three-way tie for second

place on Friday in the first round of the Southern California Golf

Association amateur championship at Hillcrest Country Club.

Conway, who finished runner-up to UCLA teammate Roy Moon last

year, fell out of the lead when he double-bogeyed the par-4 No. 8.

Andrew Crowe of Temecula fired consecutive rounds of even-par 70

for a 140 total to grab a one-shot lead at the midpoint of the 105th

annual championship, the nation’s second-oldest continuously

contested golf championship.

The third round is today and the final round Sunday.
