Vanguard inks eight
The Vanguard University women’s soccer team will remain on the young
side this fall after signing eight players.
Seven freshman and one junior signed with the Lions, who went 10-8
under Coach Kerry Crooks a year ago.
Junior Jeni Rose-Hatchett joins the Lions from Golden West
College, were she earned two-time All-Orange Empire Conference
recognition.
Crooks who also coaches the Edison High girls soccer team and will
reunite with two former Chargers in defender Emelia Miller, a
second-team All-Sunset League selection and CIF Scholar Athlete, and
goalkeeper Kelsey Bowman, a two-time, first team all-league honoree.
Bowman will redshirt this season.
Bethany Monka (Rio Mesa), Cassandra Rodeiro (El Toro), Lucia
Romero, Madison Perry and Breanne Lisl are other additions to
Vanguard’s roster.
Monka, a midfielder and forward who scored 36 goals as a prep, was
a first-team All-CIF captain while earning all-league status three
times. Rodeiro was a defensive standout for the Chargers who was
voted the team’s Most Improved Player.
Romero starred as a defender for Yucaipa High.
Lisl hails from Northern California while Crooks lured Perry from
Kauai High in Hawaii, where she was a three-sport standout.
Vanguard, which begins with an exhibition at Cal State Los Angeles
Aug. 20, has two seniors among its nine returners.
