CdM duo earn all-state recognition
Corona del Mar High graduates Josh Bradbury and Barrett Sprowl have
been named to the All-California team by Cal High Sports.
Sprowl was selected to the second team for schools of all sizes as
well as the first team for medium-sized schools. Bradbury was named
to the first team for medium-sized schools.
Sprowl, a first baseman who plans to try out for USC next season,
was named CIF Division IV Player of the Year and the Pacific Coast
League’s Most Valuable Player as a senior. Sprowl, a second-team PCL
selection as a junior, led the Sea Kings in hits (53), doubles (15)
and batting average (.500). He was second on the squad in on-base
percentage (.583) and slugging percentage (.806), and tied for second
in RBIs (25). He was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team the last two
years.
Sprowl was also named to the Louisville Slugger High School
All-American team by Collegiate Baseball, which honors the top 36
players in the nation, earlier this month.
Bradbury, a three-time Dream Team selection and the Player of the
Year and league MVP as a junior, led CdM with 11 home runs this season. He finished with 24 RBIs and a .376 batting average. Of his
33 hits this season, 18 were for extra bases.
Bradbury’s 11 home runs were one shy of the school single-season
record held by Ty Harper and Eric Wiethorn in 1999. Bradbury finished
with 21 varsity dingers, three shy of the school’s career mark of 24
held by Harper.
Last year, Bradbury was a shortstop and third baseman, but
shoulder tendinitis limited him to the designated hitter role this
year.
He was a first-team All-CIF Division IV selection.
