Young girl dies in auto accident

An Aliso Viejo girl died early Friday after suffering massive head

injuries in a crash in Laguna Beach.

Cheyenne McKean, 5, died at 2:35 a.m. Friday, according to the

Orange County Coroner’s Division. The crash happened at about 11:29

a.m. on July 8 near the intersection of El Toro Road and the San

Joaquin Hills Toll Road.

A Honda Civic exiting the toll road off-ramp hit the Ford Explorer

driven by Cheyenne’s mother as she was driving west on El Toro Road,

Sgt. Guy Miller said. The impact was severe enough to force the SUV

off the road.

Cheyenne’s 3-year-old sister was taken to Mission Hospital to be

treated for serious injuries, police said. Her mother and another

sister, who is about a year old, had minor injuries. The driver of

the Honda was taken to Saddleback Hospital with minor injuries.

Hit-and-run drivers sought by police

Police are looking for two men who may have information about a

hit-and-run crash that knocked down a Southern California Edison pole

Sunday morning, causing a power outage that affected 20 homes.

Brett Vondette, 24, of Mission Viejo and Scott Slinger, 29, of

Lake Forest are wanted for questioning, police said. The pair are not

officially considered suspects.

The crash was reported at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of

Laguna Canyon Road, when a car being driven southbound veered off the

road and sheared off a large section of the pole, police said. The

driver ran away.

The cost of repairing the pole is between $80,000 and $100,000,

Det. Andy Peck said. It took Edison crews two days to fix the pole,

and the work snarled Monday morning traffic on Laguna Canyon Road.

Electrical service was fully restored at about noon on Monday, an

Edison spokesman said.

Anyone with information may call Peck at (949) 497-0370.
