Man arrested after alleged sexual assault

Police arrested a transient Sunday on suspicion of sexually

assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Heisler Park on Saturday.

Trever Lynn Godin, 19, was booked on two felony counts, sexual

battery and oral copulation with a minor. He was also arrested on a

warrant for providing false information to a police officer.

The alleged victim, who lives in Irvine, was swimming in the ocean

around Main Beach when she encountered Godin, police said. The two

struck up a conversation and took a walk into Heisler Park, where

Godin began to make unwanted sexual advances.

“The guy began to kiss her,” Sgt. Darin Lenyi said. “She told him,

‘I don’t want to do that.’”

Despite her protestations, Godin reportedly became more

aggressive, groping her and trying to expose himself to her, police

said. She became upset and ran away to the grassy area at Main Beach.

She made a report to lifeguards, who contacted police at 5:50 p.m.

Godin was arrested about 20 minutes later by police who found him in

the 300 block of Cliff Drive.

Man arrested in alleged hit-and-run

The driver in an alleged hit-and-run crash that knocked down a

utility pole on Laguna Canyon Road was arrested Sunday after a short

chase.

David Scott Slinger, 29, of Lake Forest was arrested at about

12:45 p.m. Sunday. He was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run

for allegedly driving a Ford Thunderbird into an electric pole and

causing a power outage on July 11. He was also arrested on two

misdemeanor warrants.

He was booked on a felony count because police believe a passenger

in the car, Brett Vondette, 24, of Mission Viejo was injured in the

crash. Police have not contacted Vondette, whose father owned the

car, but Vondette’s father told police his son had cracked ribs and a

swollen right arm. Vondette, released from prison 10 days before the

crash, missed a meeting with his parole officer, Det. Andy Peck said.

After the crash, police learned Slinger was associated with an

address on Reed Street. Police showed a picture of Slinger to

residents and asked them to call if they saw him in the area. On

Sunday, police received a tip that he was there.

When police arrived, he ran away and a 10-minute chase ensued,

Peck said. Police arrested him at gunpoint after finding him hiding

in a yard at the corner of Park Avenue and Third Street.

Slinger was taken into custody on warrants and questioned about

the hit-and-run. Peck said Slinger didn’t confess but made several

minor admissions that linked him to the crime. He also had a cut on

his neck that police believe was caused by his seat belt after the

crash.
