Pair earns second-place finish at triathlon

Laguna Beach High School athletes Kat Gordon and Breanna Duplisea

each earned a second-place finish in their respective divisions

Sunday at the Pacific Coast Triathlon.

The seventh annual triathlon was held at Crystal Cove State Park,

between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach.

The triathlon consisted of a half-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride

and a three-mile run.

Gordon placed second in the Women’s 17-19 Division and was exactly

one minute behind eventual winner, 18-year-old Marilyn Reich.

Gordon finished in a time of 1:22:57.

The 17-year-old had a 17:56 time in her swim split, went 44:38 in

her bike split and 21:23 in her run split.

Duplisea, 15, finished second in the Girls’ 14-16 Division with a

time of 1:28:50.

She was edged out by 15-year-old Catherine Fiedler, who won the

division in 1:27:19.

Duplisea had a swim split of 17:07, a bike split of 44:30 and a

run split of 27:13.

Gordon will be a senior and Duplisea a sophomore this fall at

Laguna Beach High.

Soccer club adds two new teams to program

The Laguna Beach Soccer Club has announced that it is adding two

new teams to its program for the 2004-05 season.

A girls U13 team of very committed players has been added to the

program.

Natalie Potter will coach the team. Potter was the girls junior

varsity coach at Laguna Beach High School last year and has been busy

this summer preparing for the fall club season.

Also added to the club program is a boys U10 team that will be

coached by Tony Peiffer.

Peiffer served the past four years as the boys junior varsity

coach at Laguna Beach High and played professional soccer.

Peiffer still has three open spots available on the boys U10 team.

All-England Soccer Academy hits Laguna

The All-England Soccer Academy, in it’s 12th year of conducting

soccer camps, will be returning to Laguna Beach for three weeks in

August.

The camps will take place at Moulton Meadows on Aug. 16 through

20, Aug. 23 through 27 and Aug. 30 through Sept. 3.

Academy coaches are professional coaches who possess United States

Soccer Federation national coaching licenses.

All the skills of soccer will be taught throughout the week, and

each player attending the camp will receive a free Vizari soccer

shirt.
