Laguna Beach Unified School District hires new teachers
The Laguna Beach Unified School District has been preparing for
the fall term by hiring a record number of teachers and staff.
Joining the district as new hires at Laguna Beach High School are:
Francisco Gomez and Sarah Schmitz, English; Mark Alvarez, social
studies; Valerie Thompson, science; Michelle Perez, dance; Roger
Shew, jazz band and Suzanne Dean, counselor.
Joining the academic team at Thurston Middle School are Jason
Babiar, language arts and social studies; Jennifer DeMark, counselor;
and Michelle Martinez, social science.
Jamie Swintek joins the faculty at El Morro Elementary School and
Peggy Lynch, Angela Irish and Tiffany Willis will teach at Top of the
World Elementary School.
Phillip Felix joins the staff at all four school sites teaching
instrumental music.
Joining the special education team are Kim Adams and Penelope
Littlejohns. Adams will teach the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade
special day class at El Morro. Littlejohns is the new speech and
language specialist at Top of the World and Thurston.

Time for textbook review in Laguna Beach
The Laguna Beach Unified School District’s policy for adoption of
textbooks and instructional materials is to first put prospective
materials on display for public review.
On review for Laguna Beach High School use is “Economics:
Principles, Problems and Policies,” 16th edition and “Glencoe Earth
Science.”
Both texts can be reviewed through Aug. 10 at the district office,
550 Blumont St. from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For
