Pool records shattered

Justin Hanson and Jules Pouch each broke two pool records in

individual events, helping power the Harbor View swim team to a

741-545 victory over rival Newport Hills in the annual community dual

meet Saturday at the Phase II pool in Harbor View Homes.

Hanson, swimming in the boys 5-6 division, broke a 24-year-old

record in the 25-yard backstroke with a 21.78 Saturday. The old

record was 22.22 set in 1980. Hanson also swam the 25 freestyle in

16.14, beating the old mark of 16.19 set in 1992.

Pouch, competing in the girls 7-8 division, shattered

seven-year-old records in the 25 free and 50 free. Pouch swam the 25

free in 14.87 and the 50 free in 33.73.

Harbor View’s girls 11-12 relay team of Kate Barry, Chelsea Giger,

Kelli Feeley and Heather Van Hiel set a new mark in the 200 free

relay by more than two seconds with a 1:55.32 Saturday. The former

record of 1:57.38 was set in 1986.

Feeley, Barry, Margot Money and Van Hiel swam the 200 medley relay

in 2:11.18, beating the former record of 2:12.19, set in 1995.

Newport Hills’ Patrick White broke his own record in the 50 back

of the boys 13-14 division with a 27.01, finishing ahead of his 27.91

at last year’s meet.

Alex Wilde scored victories in the 25 free (15.22), 50 free

(34.90) and 25 back (19.91) for Newport Hills in the boys 7-8

division while teammate Mary Flynn tallied wins in the 50 free

(26.75) and 50 butterfly (29.57) in the girls 15-18 division.

Harbor View’s Bridget Storm claimed the 25 free (21.01) and the 25 back (26.44) in the girls 5-6 division.
