Matt Jameson, a former four-year starter for the Newport Harbor High

boys basketball team, returned to a gym filled with many memories and

tallied 18 points to lead his team to a 57-47 victory in the fourth

annual Newport Harbor alumni basketball tournament July 24 on the

Sailors’ campus.

Jameson (Class of 1999), who went on to play point guard at Miami

University of Ohio, teamed with brother Todd Jameson (‘93), Mark

McAnlis (‘93), Bob Torribio (‘95), the Newport boys junior varsity

coach, Dan Thomassen (‘93) and Ryan Anderson (‘93) to claim the

squad’s first victory in the four-year tournament.

In the finals of the seven-team event, they defeated a team that

included tournament director Jamie Holmes (‘73), Chase Cameron, Chad

Rorden and Nick Glassic, all 2003 graduates, along with George

Federovski (‘02) and Scott Ramser (‘76).

Holmes said $1,200 raised from registration fees will be donated

to the Newport Harbor boys basketball booster club.
